NACPAC Personal Chronic Pain Stories:
les histoires personnelles de la douleur chronique
des membres de NACPAC:
The following personal Chronic Pain stories document the personal
challenges and histories of Canadians who face the challenge of
living with Chronic Pain. These stories were submissions to the
NACPAC Personal Story Website Contest which honoured Chronic
Pain Awareness Week, November 10 - 16th in Canada. These
stories serve the purpose of educating the public about the plight
of Chronic Pain sufferers. Often living with an invisible disability
is a significant, challenging and frustrating component of Chronic
Pain. Medical Research, treatments and support systems for Chronic
Pain require more attention and funding in our society. The economic
cost to society is staggering, in medical treatments, lost wages
and sick days that cost millions. Often undertreatment of severe
Chronic Pain leads to suicide and Chronic Pain can wield a destructive
trail of lost jobs, broken marriages, families and lives.
